World Gaelic Week Highlights

Scotland’s Living Language and Heritage

World Gaelic Week (Seachdain na Gàidhlig) will be observed February 23–March 1, offering a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Scotland’s historic language and the vibrant culture it continues to inspire around the world.

Now in its fifth year, the weeklong initiative features community events, educational programs, music, storytelling, and cultural activities designed to encourage both fluent speakers and newcomers to engage with Gaelic in everyday life. This year’s theme, “Use It or Lose It,” underscores the importance of preserving the language through active use and participation.

Across Scotland and internationally, organizations, schools, and heritage groups will host gatherings and online events that promote learning, connection, and pride in Gaelic traditions. Members of the Scottish District Families Association are encouraged to take part, explore the language, and support efforts to keep this important part of our shared heritage thriving.
