New SDFA Brochure Introduced

A new trifold brochure has been created and printed for the use of the SDFA Convenors.  The new brochure is printed on ‘slick’ magazine style paper stock and discusses the SDFA, our purpose and mission, and explains what the Association brings to our membership.  It is in beautiful full color, with picture of our tartan, our logo and other Celtic symbols, and a membership application with QR code.  Look for the brochure feature  in the next Caledonian.

'The Caledonian' Debuts

The ‘new’ newsletter, The Caledonian, summer edition has been released.  It is a totally reworked, new named edition.  Thanks to the media chairperson Catherine Lieberman the newsletter is brighter, more colorful, and contains more event photos. Look for the latest edition in the Newsletter Archive.

New Surname Lookup Page

New page for Surname Lookup

Something new on our website.  A new ‘page’ has been added.  It allows for a surname lookup to give the corresponding Scottish district.  This is what we do at our tents at the various games.

By accessing our website, visitors to our tents can search their surname and ascertain the associated district.  The database that is used is provided by Robert Heston author of several books used by us at our tents.

30th Anniversary

SDFA 30th Anniversary

The SDFA will celebrate it’s 30th anniversary at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in July next year. If you are interested in serving on the Anniversary Celebration committee please email Dennis Blythe at sdfa.president@outlook.com.

SDFA Tartan

Did you know that the SDFA has a tartan? In it’s early life, the SDFA Executive committee chose the Ancient Caledonia tartan as the Association tartan. The tartan dates back to the Edinburgh Caledonian Society in the 1700’s. The Society dissolved in the early 1800’s, but their tartan lives on as a tartan available to all who do not have a clan tartan. The Ancient Caledonia tartan features a vibrant color scheme of reds, blues, greens, and accent of orange and yellow, representing strength, landscape, and the Scottish spirit.

You only need to do an internet search to discover all of the products and the vendors who have the tartan available.
